Insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis that becomes part of your permanent health record. With private pay, your notes and information are kept completely separate from your health record. It is up to you who you share your records with. Records are kept confidential and no one else is privy to your information unless you ask me to release it.
With private pay, we have the freedom to explore different issues without the requirement of meeting medical necessity. When using insurance, they may deny coverage if you are not given a diagnosis and put limits on the type of treatment you receive. Such as limiting the amount of sessions you attend, limiting therapeutic services to certain interventions and limiting who attends the sessions. If your needs change during therapy, with private pay, we have the ability to adjust and explore new issues without a change in diagnosis or any limitations on treatment. Your treatment is solely based on you and tailored to your wants and needs.
The therapeutic relationship is part of the foundation for healing. Having good rapport with your therapist is critical to the therapeutic process. With private pay, you are not limited when choosing the provider. You are not forced to work with someone based on your benefits. You are able to choose the provider you best connect with who fits your needs.
We are able to increase or decrease the amount of sessions and session times based on your needs. We have the freedom to extend your session time over 50 minutes, or spread your sessions out without the risk of insurance denying the claim.
Insurance companies can have a cap on how many sessions you're allowed to have, and how long these sessions can be. This can be counterintuitive to the therapeutic process. As a private pay therapist, I am able to be more available to you and adjust sessions and interventions based on what best suits you. Investing in therapy is investing in a better, healthier you. You have the right to choose the provider and type of treatment you want to receive.
We do not accept insurance at this time, but you may use your Out-Of-Network benefits if you have them. At the time of service, you will be responsible for payment. However, if requested we provide brief documentation regarding session information for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed, as this depends on your insurance plan. We also accept HSA cards (Health Savings Account) as a form of payment.
